Highlight Tape Tips

The first and most important tip I can give you about making your
highlight film, is that you must always make sure that your
information is included with your highlight film.  Do not assume that
the coach will be able to figure it out from your mailing package, and
just writing on your DVD is not good enough.  If you are sending out a
DVD to a coach, make sure to include an information sheet that has the
following: contact information (name, address, email, phone number,
etc.), physical attributes (height, weight, bench, 40yd time, etc.),
high school information, coaches name, year in school, GPA, test
scores, and any other stats and awards that you may have.  If you are
using a recruiting website such a Webletes.com then this information
should be updated on there for the coach to see.  The more information
you can provide the coach the better.  It is also a good idea to put
your contact information at the beginning and end of the highlight
film in case the coach happens to lose your information sheet.

Remember, if the coach can’t contact you, he can’t recruit you!

Padhye’s Passing - So you want to play college football?

Weblete Nation we'd like to introduce to our new guest blogger Nubis
Padhye. There, you've met him. He can take it from here.

Highlight Films

My name is Nubis Padhye and I am a former College Quarterbacks Coach.
Over the past 10 years the process for recruiting and being recruited
has changed a great deal.  As a potential recruit, your goal is to get
yourself in front of the eyes of as many college coaches as you
possibly can.  With all the new technologies, highlight films, and
recruiting websites, that has actually become easier yet more
difficult at the same time.  You see for you the recruit, you may be
able to send your film out to hundreds of coaches with one simple
click of the mouse and a link to your webletes page.  From there the
coach can easily watch your film, see your information, and contact
you right?  But the problem is, you aren’t the only recruit who can
send his film out so easily.  Every other potential recruit in the
country can do the exact same thing you are doing, which means that
college coaches end up with hundreds of highlight films that they have
to sort through and watch.  So somehow, someway, you have to make sure
your highlight film sticks out and grabs the attention of the coach
who is going to be watching it.  And because they have so many films
to watch, they don’t have the time to wait, so it needs to catch their
attention early.  In the next few weeks I will provide you with a few
tips to consider when making your highlight film that will help you to
create a product that will help you to show the best you have to
offer.

So your football season is over? What’s next?

It’s time to push forward with recruiting. I’m a former college football coach and have been on the other side of the recruiting game. I know what they are looking for. The biggest thing a coach wants to see if your tape. Coach are not usually impressed with stats or lack there of. They want to see how you move and play the game. When making a highlight tape there a few basic tips I like to give athletes:

  1. Always put your best plays first. Coaches will rarely sit through an entire highlight film to see every play. This seems basic but is not always done. Some athletes will put their highlights in order by game sequence and coaches may not even see your best plays.
  2. That bring me to my second tip. You don’t have to make a 50 play highlight. Pick your best 15-18 plays from the season.
  3. Each position is different but show as many different aspects of your game as possible. For instance, if you’re a receiver, you can’t just show deep ball touchdowns. You want to show your speed but other aspects are very important to recruitment as well. Coaches want to see you run routes, make tough catches, and block.
  4. Don’t have a long intro. Have basic information and stats and get to video as soon as possible.

Please email me with any further questions you may have about your specific highlight tape or recruitment in general. We can help you at Webletes.com with your highlights by going to Webletes.com/purchasevideo.
