School is almost over so I don’t need to worry about recruiting until next year….. Wrong!

College coaches are already in the hunt for their recruiting class next year! Most student athletes don’t realize that they are really being watched all year around. College coaches watch you play other sports, at camps and film even in the off season.  May is actually a very crucial time for coaches as they are putting together their list of recruits to target for the upcoming year so making a good impression is important.

Make sure you are trying your hardest during track meets, baseball games and other spring sports because you never know who will be in the stands.  If a coach does happen to attend you may not even know that’s why it’s important to always give 100%. This also goes for camps this spring and summer. Coaches will be attending or they will have people relaying information to them all summer long which will also help them put together their recruiting targets for next season.

If you are in the area and can make it, make sure you attend Webletes.com Football Combine Camp on May 21st http://www.webletes.com/camp

Good Luck,

Summer Time; Time to Vacation or Time to Get Better?

As the school year is winding down and summer is rapidly approaching, most student athletes are planning summer vacations and other outdoor activities. One activity that should be on your activity list is attending camps or combines.

One thing student athletes find out the hard way every year is how important it is to attend camps and combines throughout the summer. Attending such camps has a few key benefits:

1)      Making Yourself Better-  If you’re not getting better, you’re getting worse. Whether it’s improving quickness, playing against better competition or your overall skill set, you’re improving. A lot of your competition for both the upcoming school year and in the recruiting process won’t be attending camps or combines in the summer.
2)      Gaining Exposure – Camps and combines always have either college coaches or people who are connected with the college coach group in attendance. Getting in front of either of these groups could be the difference in getting recruited and not getting recruited by a school.
3)      Learning Techniques – Learning and doing specific techniques/drills can drastically improve all aspects of your game. The little things you can learn during these camps can improve your overall game the most.

My recommendation is to look at college camps/combines in your region and attend them even if they are more than you would like to spend. After all, spending a hundred dollars now is better than not getting a scholarship and spending thousands later.

If you are in the Ohio Region, Webletes.com is having a Combine Camp on May 21, 2011. I would strongly encourage you to attend the camp. For more information go here www.webletes.com/camp

Feeling Lost in the Recruiting Process?

Trust me, I know. Getting recruited as a High School athlete is a very difficult thing to go through especially if you have very little guidance.  As a former High School Athlete looking to play at the collegiate level, I thought as long as my stats were there; college coaches would come. Definitely not the case.  There is a lot that goes into recruiting athletes from both high schools and College coaches.

We are working diligently to provide a service to help both sides of the equation. We know what it is like from both sides as we have former high school / college athletes and college coaches on staff. We will be posting different thoughts / ideas and basic ramblings here on our blog so feel free to check back for advice or pure amusement.

I’ll leave with this… Start your first step to playing college sports by filling out a profile at Webletes.com. It will only take 3-5 minutes and after all, it is free and I’m sure the exposure couldn’t hurt.
