Summer Time; Time to Vacation or Time to Get Better?

As the school year is winding down and summer is rapidly approaching, most student athletes are planning summer vacations and other outdoor activities. One activity that should be on your activity list is attending camps or combines.

One thing student athletes find out the hard way every year is how important it is to attend camps and combines throughout the summer. Attending such camps has a few key benefits:

1)      Making Yourself Better-  If you’re not getting better, you’re getting worse. Whether it’s improving quickness, playing against better competition or your overall skill set, you’re improving. A lot of your competition for both the upcoming school year and in the recruiting process won’t be attending camps or combines in the summer.
2)      Gaining Exposure – Camps and combines always have either college coaches or people who are connected with the college coach group in attendance. Getting in front of either of these groups could be the difference in getting recruited and not getting recruited by a school.
3)      Learning Techniques – Learning and doing specific techniques/drills can drastically improve all aspects of your game. The little things you can learn during these camps can improve your overall game the most.

My recommendation is to look at college camps/combines in your region and attend them even if they are more than you would like to spend. After all, spending a hundred dollars now is better than not getting a scholarship and spending thousands later.

If you are in the Ohio Region, Webletes.com is having a Combine Camp on May 21, 2011. I would strongly encourage you to attend the camp. For more information go here www.webletes.com/camp
